Mindset Makes A Difference

I was recently at a Networking event. I found out something very interesting so thought I would share it. We had a writer / publisher talking to us and she gave us some advice. It was to spend the first 10 minutes of your day doing automatic writing.  This is when you put pen to paper and just see what you write. Usually you will find yourself writing about all the things that you are concerned about. It’s only once you have done this that you should get on with whatever writing you wish to do. Everyone there did this and had a full page of things that were holding their attention. I was a bit confused as I had two things that concerned me, and the rest of the page was taken up by all the good things I was doing and looking forward to! What she said next gave me my answer.

The state of mind that you go to bed with will have a knock on effect with how you are when you wake up. For many years I have suggested to my students to think of three things you are grateful for at the end of each day. This is something I have done every day for the last few years.  No matter how many things may have gone wrong for you throughout the day, you don’t want to take them to bed with you. If you are of the mindset that you have nothing to be grateful for, think again. You may have a roof over your head, food on the table, eyesight to see the beauty around you plus many more things you can be grateful for. It may be small things but it is better to let your mind rest on these good thoughts rather than struggling to sleep with all the problems of the day going round and round in your head.
